Welcome! I am Max Fu of class 2G and I am currently running for a 2nd year in office. For those who still do not know me well, then please read on. For those who think they already know me well enough, then you are excused but I will be expecting your vote!
Why should you vote for me? You were probably seeking an answer to that question by coming here. Let’s put that aside for now. First, let me share some personal information with you, so that you can get to know me better! I came in from
So, no doubt you will have visited many other councillor wannabes’ websites, and some might have proclaimed themselves as “servant leaders” or other self-glorifying terms. Of course, there is nothing wrong with being a servant leader – everyone wants to be one and I am no exception.
However, what sets me apart from all the rest? Why should you feel compelled to vote for this servant leader over the others?
Let’s start by reviewing my achievements in my first year as a part of Hwa Chong Institution and the ProEd Council. I…
· was a councillor-in-training
· am 1 of 2 councillors in the level selected for the prestigious 12th annual SLC OT (Student Leaders Convention Organizing Team) (the other guy is Yu Hui from Ortus)
· was part of the OT for Teachers Day 2005 and ProEd Leadership Camp 2005
· was the Class Treasurer
· was the Class Literature Representative
Now that we know what leadership roles I held, I am sure most of you will want to know more about how I coped with my schoolwork during my first year. My overall grade of 1.83 placed me 12th in class.
I would now like to review the promises I made during my first year. One year before now, I promised that if I was voted in, I would be your voice, and represent the entire student body in making your views and opinions heard. And I think I have done that, as well as I can to the best of my ability.
If you vote me in for a second year, I promise to continue to lend an ear to YOUR suggestions and opinions. On top of that, I will also create more chances and opportunities for all of you to take on leadership roles as I believe that everyone, not just councillors, should be given a chance to lead. I will also try to propose fresh new ideas for the council, so as to make our ProEd Council unique and let it stand out from the rest.
In conclusion, I would like to share my definition of a good leader with you. Throughout history, there have been many various leaders around the world. Just to name a few, Napoleon, Julius Caesar, Adolf Hitler, Osama bin Laden, Lee Kuan Yew, Gandhi, Princess Diana, and Deng Xiao Ping. We can thus divide these men and women into two groups. One group consists of the leaders who misused their power to conquer and wreck havoc on the community --- Napoleon, Julius Caesar, Adolf Hitler, Osama bin Laden. The other group is made out of the leaders who used the influence and authority vested in them for good and admirable causes --- Lee Kuan Yew, Gandhi, Princess Diana, Deng Xiao Ping.
The first group of leaders did nothing more than to expand their “empires”. Napoleon, Julius Caesar and Adolf Hitler also enriched their country’s coffers while they were at it. However, the leaders which are grouped in the second group are very much different. Lee Kuan Yew is now viewed by many as the “father” of
Only the leaders in the second group are truly great leaders. True leadership is not achieved through aggression coupled with ambition, but is instead leadership which contributes to the general good of the community. True leadership has both depth and height.
Having said all these, I hope that you will vote me in for a second year in ProEd Council. I might not have been the best councillor-in-training, or we might have disagreed, but I sincerely hope you will allow me the privilege to serve you this year. I believe that together with your help, I can emulate the leaders in the second group and continue serving the student body to the best of my ability!
